Before the metformin drug was officially approved, most of the clinical studies showed metformin use lead to weight losses of an average of between 1.4 up to 8.4 pounds per individual. However, there were some people who lost weight yet they were not taking metformin. There was an insignificant difference in the two groups; hence it was difficult to deduce if metformin caused weight loss. In the studies, metformin was being used to treat diabetes mellitus/diabetes type 2. Nobody knows if metformin side effects can have an effect in the weight of non-diabetic people.
